  • Management Information Systems:  The course explains that managers often rely on management information systems to determine strategy, and that these systems are only equipped with retrospective information.  It goes on to state that determining strategy for the future based purely on current and past information is like driving a car by using only the rear view mirror, and that this information alone is not sufficient for determining strategy.
  • "Information about the Future": Managers can evaluate the future of a company by analyzing a number of factors. Managing the future is achieved with the help of certain "basic criteria". These are certain investments that bring benefits to a company, such as product development, R & D, training and brands.
